It is reported that Linglong Tire cooperated with Beijing University of Chemical Technology to develop 3D printed polyurethane tires (Specifications are 165 70 / R12) and have completed the corresponding tests.
This is the first time to make standard polyurethane tires through 3D printing in China. This kind of tire has free inflatable hexagonal hollow structure, using thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) materials, completing 3D printing through the fused deposition method (FDM) , and finally realizing tire integrated moulding without mold in manufacturing process.
Polyurethane material has the characteristics of low heat, high wear resistance and tear resistance. In previous studies, the technicians found that the polyurethane tread with a phase separation structure had lower heat and rolling resistance than traditional rubber tread. Linglong Tires said that polyurethane is expected to become main material of green tires in next generation.
