Cabot recently announced that it will continue to increase its capacity in the global carbon black factory and plan to increase annual capacity by more than 300 thousand tons.
Through the expansion of the Cilegon plant in Indonesia, Cabot will increase the capacity of about 160 thousand tons which can meet the demand for carbon black growing 4% to 5% annually in South East Asia. The production line is expected to be completed by the end of 2020 and the project has received strong support from the Indonesian government.
Cabot will also invest about $50 million to improve operational problems in the 18 carbon black production lines. After the completion of this, it is expected to increase the supply of 150 thousand tons of carbon black for tires and industrial rubber users.
It is understood that Cabot has completed about 1/3 of the capacity expansion, the entire expansion plan is expected to be completed by 2021, and these investments will increase Cabot's global carbon black capacity to about 2 million 500 thousand tons.
