Tianjin University has successfully developed a high-efficiency platinum-based catalyst that will significantly improve propylene production efficiency. It is expected to break the long-term technological monopoly of propane dehydrogenation (PDH) in Western countries.
The high-efficiency platinum-based catalyst developed by the team has two new advantages: First, it is more pure. The metal impurities of the auxiliary agent are removed by high temperature reduction and pickling so that the catalyst forms a surface of the core shell covered with pure platinum; Second, it is stronger. By changing the electronic state of platinum on the surface, it greatly enhances the catalytic activity of platinum atoms. Thus it creats a possibility for greatly improving the efficiency of propylene production in industrial practice.
